Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Discipline Director of Behavioral Health, the Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatry) provides diagnostic, preventative, and therapeutic mental health services. This role includes evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, and crisis intervention for patients across Unity Healthcare sites, including correctional facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, examinations, and diagnoses
  • Obtain clinical histories and assess patient mental health status
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Evaluate and prescribe psychotropic medications as appropriate
  • Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests
  • Provide crisis intervention and behavioral health support
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams to ensure coordinated care
  • Participate in peer reviews and quality improvement initiatives
  • Prepare reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders
  • Attend meetings and perform additional duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Nurse Practitioner degree in Psychiatry from an accredited institution
  • Current District of Columbia (DC) licensure
  • Active Federal DEA and DC Controlled Substances (CDS) certifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of psychiatric practices, procedures, and treatment standards
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse and underserved populations
  • Strong communication and clinical decision-making skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar business software
