Summary:


  • The Nursing Performance Improvement Specialist reports to the Director of Professional Practice and Nursing Outcomes and will provide leadership and consultation to the Department of Nursing in the assessment of nursing sensitive indicator performance, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and facilitating evidence-based, methodical data-driven improvement efforts. This position is responsible for the coordination and oversight of timely nursing sensitive indicator reporting and dissemination of performance data and benchmarks. Accountabilities include maintaining accurate unit and hospital demographics for benchmarking and collaboration with stakeholders within Nursing and quality and safety partners to identify trends and improvement opportunities. This role relies on strong organization and strategic planning skills to partner with subject matter experts and nursing leaders to take a proactive, systems-oriented approach to maintain performance in accordance with ANCC Magnet® standards. Additionally, the Nursing Performance Improvement Specialist partners with the following departments and specialty areas on a regular basis: Quality and Patient Safety, Nursing Professional Development, Nursing Informatics and Patient Experience.

Responsibilities:


  • Quality & Safety: Accountable for the hospital’s nursing quality improvement program, including but not limited to the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing data collection and analysis, data management and report generation leading to process improvement activities. Oversees internal and external benchmarking of nursing sensitive indicators as determined by the organization (e.g. NDNQI, Press Ganey,), as well as outcomes management. Collaborates with quality and safety partners to identify trends and improvement opportunities. Ensures nursing sensitive performance data are disseminated to appropriate stakeholders and actively partners to provide direction, coordination and facilitation of data analysis and improvement initiatives. Integrates professional standards and evidence-based practice in development and evaluation of quality initiatives. Serves as a resource in quality improvement methodologies. Ensures the nursing quality improvement program is congruent with Penn Medicine mission and goals

    Translating Best Practices into Practice: Able to synthesize evidence-based practice (EBP) recommendations and work to incorporate them into nursing practice through projects, education, and system enhancements. Working knowledge of nursing workflow and processes in order to translate into efficient and effective system development and enhancement. Working knowledge of varied clinical areas. Ability to exercise judgment while working independently

    Magnet: Establishes and leads initiatives to support the development and maintenance of a work environment that embraces the Magnet model. Serves as an expert resource to the Magnet Recognition Program. Engages clinical nurses in designing performance improvement with empirical outcomes to demonstrate excellence in nursing. Evaluates evidence supporting a Magnet culture in preparation for application and on an ongoing basis

    Project Management Skills and Follow Through: Excellent project management skills and ability to demonstrate follow through. Working knowledge of safety principles, theory of quality improvement and regulatory policies.

    Communication, Presentation, and Educational Skills: Excellent written and verbal skills. Facilitate education programs for clinicians in the use of technology and /or system enhancements. Able to utilize and leverage current and emerging technologies as resources and teaching tools

    Lead Organizational Change Current knowledge of change management principles to drive thinking beyond current models (eg, Unfreeze, Change, Refreeze). Current knowledge of public policy initiatives (Meaningful Use) with the ability to bridge new care delivery models into clinical practice with the right technology. Innovative change agent. Monitor, report, and support change outcomes in various health system and leadership settings.

    Technologies Able to embrace current and future technologies and innovations. Able to communicate usage and create workflows for future technological innovations. Seeks additional opportunities in technology and innovation.


Credentials:


  • Registered Nurse - PA (Required)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:


  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
