The Nursing Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and managing all nursing services in the hospital. This includes ensuring quality patient care, maintaining nursing standards, staffing, training, and coordinating with other clinical and administrative departments to achieve the hospital’s objectives.
Key Responsibilities1. Administrative & Leadership
- Plan, organize, and supervise all nursing activities across hospital units.
- Develop and implement nursing policies, protocols, and SOPs in compliance with NABH/JCI standards.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels for all shifts, including leave and emergency replacements.
- Conduct regular rounds to ensure quality patient care and adherence to nursing standards.
- Coordinate with the HR department for recruitment, appraisal, and disciplinary actions.
2. Patient Care & Quality
- Monitor and ensure safe, ethical, and evidence-based nursing practices.
- Address patient and family concerns related to nursing services promptly.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care in medical records.
- Collaborate with doctors and other clinical teams for smooth patient care delivery.
3. Training & Development
- Identify training needs and arrange continuing nursing education programs.
- Mentor, coach, and guide nursing staff to maintain high professional standards.
- Conduct orientation programs for new nursing recruits.
4. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure adherence to infection control practices and hospital safety protocols.
- Maintain records and reports as per statutory requirements.
- Ensure proper handling of medical equipment and supplies.
5. Resource Management
- Monitor and manage nursing budgets, manpower, and inventory control.
- Coordinate with stores and pharmacy for timely procurement of nursing supplies.
Qualifications & Experience
- B.Sc. / M.Sc. Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Registration with State Nursing Council.
- Minimum 10–15 years of nursing experience, with at least 5 years in a senior supervisory role.
- Knowledge of hospital accreditation processes (NABH/JCI) preferred.
Skills & Competencies

- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to handle emergencies and crisis situations effectively.
- Proficiency in hospital information systems and MS Office.
