Reports To: Chief Nursing Officer / Medical Superintendent / Hospital Administrator
Supervises: Nursing Supervisors, Ward In-Charges, Staff Nurses, Nursing Assistants

1. Position Overview
The Nursing Superintendent manages nursing operations across the entire hospital. They act as a link between nursing staff, hospital management, and medical teams, ensuring quality care, adherence to protocols, and efficient service delivery.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Administrative Duties
- Oversee and manage all nursing units and nursing staff.
- Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and standards.
- Ensure compliance with hospital rules, legal regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Prepare duty rosters, assign shifts, and manage leave schedules.
- Conduct regular department rounds to monitor staff performance and patient care.
B. Staff Management
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate nursing staff.
- Conduct orientation programs and continuing education sessions.
- Monitor staff discipline and performance; initiate corrective actions when needed.
- Address complaints or conflicts among nursing personnel.
C. Patient Care Oversight
- Ensure high-quality, safe, and personalized nursing care.
- Monitor infection control practices and hygiene standards.
- Assess critical cases and ensure proper coordination between departments.
- Handle patient/attendant grievances related to nursing services.
D. Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with doctors, department heads, and hospital administration.
- Participate in management meetings and present nursing-related reports.
- Ensure smooth functioning during emergencies, peak workloads, or staff shortages.
E. Inventory & Budget
- Oversee nursing supplies, equipment, and medication stock.
- Report shortages and ensure timely procurement.
- Participate in the preparation of the nursing department budget.

4. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing (BSc / MSc Nursing)
- Registration with the Nursing Council
- Several years of clinical and supervisory experience (varies by hospital)
- Advanced training in hospital administration is an added advantage
5. Reporting Structure
The Nursing Superintendent usually reports to:
- Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) or
- Medical Superintendent / Hospital Administrator

- Ward In-Charges
- Staff Nurses
- Nursing Assistants
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹18,000.00 per month
