Position Title: Nursing Superintendent
Department: Nursing
Reporting To: Administrative Office
Location: Assigned Branch (Tambaram / OMR / ECR)

Position Summary:

The Nursing Superintendent is responsible for overall planning, supervision, and management of nursing services within the hospital. The role ensures high standards of patient care, proper staffing, regulatory compliance, discipline, and effective coordination between nursing and other departments to maintain quality healthcare delivery.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

Nursing Administration & Leadership

  • Lead and supervise the entire nursing department.
  • Ensure adequate staffing, shift allocation, and manpower planning.
  • Monitor nursing performance, discipline, and professional conduct.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to nursing staff and team leads.

Patient Care & Clinical Oversight

  • Ensure quality nursing care standards are maintained across OP, IP, ICU, OT, and Labour Ward.
  • Conduct regular ward rounds and review patient care practices.
  • Monitor medication administration, infection control, and safety protocols.
  • Address patient complaints or concerns related to nursing services.

Policy Implementation & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to hospital policies, clinical guidelines, and ethical standards.
  • Maintain compliance with statutory requirements and accreditation standards (NABH or applicable).
  • Ensure proper documentation, case sheets, nursing notes, and reporting systems are maintained.

Training & Development

  • Identify training needs and coordinate in-service education programs.
  • Support continuous professional development of nursing staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and recommend promotions or corrective actions.

Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with doctors, RMO, administration, and other departments for smooth operations.
  • Participate in management meetings and provide nursing-related updates.
  • Ensure effective communication between shifts and departments.

Inventory & Resource Management

  • Monitor nursing supplies, equipment usage, and stock availability.
  • Ensure proper utilization and maintenance of hospital equipment.
  • Coordinate with purchase and stores for timely supply management.

Emergency & Crisis Management

  • Oversee nursing response during emergencies and critical cases.
  • Ensure preparedness of nursing teams for disaster management situations.

Authority & Accountability:

  • Authorized to allocate duties, monitor discipline, and recommend disciplinary actions.
  • Accountable for overall nursing service quality and patient care standards.
  • Responsible for reporting major clinical or administrative concerns to management.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • B.Sc. Nursing / M.Sc. Nursing.
  • Valid Nursing Council Registration.
  • Minimum 5–10 years of clinical experience with leadership exposure.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and team management skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of hospital protocols and nursing standards.

Work Nature:

  • High-responsibility leadership role within hospital operations.
  • Requires availability during emergencies or critical situations.
