Job Summary

The University of Michigan seeks a proactive and detail-oriented OCIP & Builder's Risk Claims Liaison to serve as the primary intermediary in managing construction-related insurance claims for major university projects. Reporting to the OCIP & MBR Insurance Program Manager, this role collaborates with project teams, contractors, insurance carrier, and broker to ensure seamless claims processing and compliance with all insurance requirements. The Claims Liaison plays a critical role in risk mitigation, coverage analysis, and continuous improvement in the university's insurance program.

Responsibilities*

• Initiate, investigate, and coordinate General Liability (GL), Workers Compensation (WC) and Builder's Risk claims, guiding cases from initial incident reporting through resolution.
• Act as the central point of contact and communication between project teams, subcontractors, insurance carriers, brokers, and defense counsel.
• Review construction contracts, policy forms, and wrap-up program agreements to analyze coverage applicability, obligations, and defense strategies.
• Ensure accurate and timely submission of loss reports, photographic evidence, and incident documentation to insurance carriers, and maintain loss runs.
• Analyze loss trends, collaborate with safety and loss control teams, and set claim reserves to develop risk mitigation strategies.
• Monitor and enforce subcontractor insurance compliance, manage certificate renewals, and ensure documentation is up to date.
• Support administrative tasks including stakeholder reporting, regular presentation of claim trends and outcomes to senior administration, and advocacy of process improvements.

Required Qualifications*

• Bachelor's degree in business, risk management, insurance, or a related field (preferred).
• Minimum 2-5 years' experience in construction insurance claims, especially involving OCIP/CCIP or Builder's Risk policies.
• Strong working knowledge of construction contracts, insurance law and policy forms, and risk management principles.
• Professional designations such as AIC, CPCU, or ARM are highly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to negotiate, analyze complex insurance matters, and communicate effectively with multiple stakeholder groups.
• Proficiency with insurance administration software and Microsoft Office suite.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to collaborative teamwork.
