Job Duties:

The Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney is responsible for prosecuting those charged with violating the criminal laws of Virginia in Virginia Beach. We are seeking a full-time Office Assistant II within our Victim Witness grant program. This position works with caseworkers, prosecutors, victims and witnesses as well as the Virginia Supreme Court in coordinating all travel-related expenses for victims and witnesses.

Other duties include coordinate interviews, assist with court appearances and other services; assist victims and witnesses with escorting them to court cases; record monthly statistical information; help plan and coordinate activities for National Victims’ Rights Week; provide backup to other staff when necessary and other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: High school or GED plus one year (1) of experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities, such as clerical or office assistant; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Requires a passing score on typing test.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:

Experience working with victims and/or witnesses of crime; Experience working in the Criminal Justice System; Professional experience arranging travel; Experience reconciling or tracking travel expenses and reimbursements; Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple schedules and deadlines simultaneously; Experience working with clients in a confidential manner; Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) and/or case management or travel booking systems.

VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
