Join the Housing and Neighborhood Preservation's Code Enforcement Division and be part of a team that works behind the scenes to help keep Virginia Beach one of the most beautiful and welcoming communities in the region! Our Office Assistants play a key role in supporting our field inspectors, assisting residents, and ensuring smooth daily operations that uphold community standards and the Virginia Maintenance Code. Together with our inspectors, we help strengthen the charm and character of Virginia Beach one property at a time.

As an Office Assistant II, you will join a dedicated four-person team that manages administrative functions for one of our inspection teams. NO two days will look exactly the same, and you'll be involved in a wide range of responsibilities, including:

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: High school or GED plus one year (1) of experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities, such as clerical or office assistant; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Requires a passing score on typing test. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
One or more years of customer service experience (phone, in-person, or online). Experience handling stressful situations and resolving concerns respectfully. Proficiency with multi-line phones. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) and work-management databases (Accela or similar preferred). Experience preparing professional correspondence. Two or more years of administrative/clerical experience (data entry, records management, mail processing, scheduling, payments, office equipment). Ability to multitask effectively with minimal supervision. Organized and able to work independently (remote or in the office) and on a team.
Special Instructions:
VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
