Job Description – O&G Staff Nurse (OB-GYN Nurse)

Department: Obstetrics & Gynecology (O&G)
Reports To: Nursing Superintendent / Duty Doctor / Consultant OBG
Location: Malar Hospital, Hosur

Job Summary

The O&G Staff Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to antenatal, postnatal, and gynecology patients. The role includes assisting in normal deliveries, postnatal care, gynecological procedures, and ensuring maternal and neonatal safety while maintaining high clinical and patient care standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Care

• Provide nursing care to antenatal and postnatal mothers.
• Monitor maternal vital signs, fetal heart rate, and labour progress.
• Assist doctors during normal delivery and emergency obstetric procedures.
• Provide post-delivery mother and newborn care.
• Administer medications and IV fluids as prescribed.

2. Labour Room Responsibilities

• Prepare labour room with sterile equipment and delivery kits.
• Assist in conducting normal deliveries.
• Monitor labour using partograph.
• Identify high-risk pregnancy signs and report immediately.
• Ensure infection control and aseptic practices.

3. Gynecology Care

• Assist in gynecological examinations and minor procedures.
• Prepare patients for surgeries (D&C, hysterectomy, etc.).
• Provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care.

4. Newborn Care

• Immediate newborn assessment and stabilization.
• Assist in neonatal resuscitation if required.
• Promote breastfeeding and educate mothers on newborn care.
• Maintain neonatal records and monitoring charts.

5. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate patient records and nursing notes.
• Update delivery registers and patient files.
• Inform doctors promptly regarding patient condition changes.

6. Infection Control

• Follow hospital infection control protocols.
• Maintain labour room sterility.
• Proper biomedical waste disposal as per guidelines.

7. Patient Education

• Educate mothers on:
• Breastfeeding techniques
• Postnatal care
• Family planning methods
• Personal hygiene and nutrition

Qualifications

• B.Sc Nursing / GNM Nursing
• Valid Nursing Council Registration (TN Nursing Council preferred)

Experience

• Freshers can apply
• 1–3 years experience in Labour Room / O&G preferred
