Ryanco Construction is a Class A General Engineering & C-34 Pipeline contractor specializing in oil & gas, utilities, and energy-infrastructure projects across Southern California. Our work includes trenching, pipeline installation, mechanical scopes, demolition, coating, corrosion mitigation, and facility maintenance for major utility and energy operators.

We are seeking a dependable Coating & Sandblasting Laborer who can perform industrial surface prep and coating work AND support the crew with general labor duties when coating tasks are not active.

Position Overview

This role involves assisting with sandblasting, surface preparation, and coating on pipelines, valves, and structural components — but also requires working as a general laborer between coating tasks.
You must be comfortable with hands-on field labor, trenching support, cleanup, material handling, and jobsite tasks in addition to coating-specific work.

Key Responsibilities - Coating & Blasting Duties

• Perform sandblasting using abrasive blasting equipment
• Prepare metal surfaces (cleaning, grinding, needle scaling, wire brushing)
• Apply industrial coatings (epoxy, urethane, cold tar, FBE touch-up, etc.)
• Mask/tarp areas and maintain controlled blasting environments
• Mix and handle coatings safely and accurately

General Labor Duties (Between Coating Work)

• Assist with trenching, backfill, compaction, and utility excavation
• Help pipefitters, welders, and mechanical crews as needed
• Load/unload tools, pipe, materials, and equipment
• Jobsite housekeeping, sweeping, debris removal
• Support demolition, saw-cutting, and cleanup operations
• Operate basic hand tools and power tools
• Assist with traffic control or spotter duties when required

Qualifications

Required:

• Valid driver’s license
• Able to lift 50–75 lbs
• Willing to work outdoors in heat, dust, trenches, confined spaces
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to follow instructions
• Willing to perform both coating/blasting work and general labor

Preferred:

• Industrial coating or sandblasting experience
• Oil & gas, pipeline, refinery, or utility gas background
• OSHA 10, TWIC, MSHA, or safety certs
• Familiarity with SSPC/NACE surface prep standards
• Experience with grinders, blasting pots, air compressors

Compensation

$20 – $28/hour DOE
Higher for candidates with industrial coating/blasting experience or active safety credentials.

Work Environment

• Pipeline digs, valve stations, utility trenches
• Refineries, terminals, compressor stations
• Outdoor physical labor
• Overtime and weekend opportunities depending on project load
