What You'll Do
As an Oil and Gas Title Attorney, you'll play a key role in supporting our clients across multiple energy-producing states. You’ll apply your legal expertise to guide clients through complex mineral and leasehold issues, ensuring clarity, confidence, and compliance at every turn. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting Thorough Oil and Gas Title Examinations: Research historical property records, leases, contracts, and other instruments to determine ownership, establish clear chains of title, build ownership schedules, and identify title defects or encumbrances.
- Drafting, Reviewing, and Delivering Title Opinions: Draft, review, and issue title opinions that clearly outline ownership status and assess the viability of production operations under current legal frameworks.
- Providing Strategic Legal Counseling: Advise clients on transactional structures and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Evaluate risks, negotiate terms, and ensure legal alignment with all operational and environmental laws.
- Navigating Multi-Jurisdictional Challenges: Given our expansive geographic footprint, you will have opportunity to address jurisdiction-specific legal challenges and opportunities in Colorado, Oklahoma, New Mexico, North Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming. This includes staying current with legislative changes, regulatory updates, and emerging legal trends across your jurisdiction to provide proactive solutions to our clients.
- Collaborating with Industry Stakeholders: Work closely with landmen, division order analysts, geologists, and other professionals or landowners to ensure legal and operational goals align.
- Supporting Client Relations and Business Development: Help maintain and grow client relationships through excellent service and by participating in industry events, workshops, and seminars.
This role is ideal for those who thrive in a fast-paced, intellectually challenging environment where your legal expertise can directly impact the success and growth of our energy clients.
