The Department of Radiology at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Software Engineer (Professional Technologist 4).
About the Opportunity
The primary purpose of this position is to lead development of world-class biomedical imaging software to support the imaging research agenda of the Center for Advanced Imaging at the WVU Radiology Department. The person working in this position will also work with others at the Radiology department to provide solutions for their data acquisition, analysis, storage and presentation needs by designing, developing, testing, packaging, deploying, and maintaining software and associated data.

What You'll Do
Software Engineering
-
Maintain current software tools used in the current already developed imagers
-
Assure software upgrades and modifications for the current software, when necessary, through personal effort and/or outsourcing

Review the (research, medical) software needs and level of implementation for all developed systems
-
Perform definition of user software needs for new planned systems
-
Develop system specific spec lists and methods of implementation
-
Test plan definition and implementation for performance and usability
-
Perform usability studies
-
Perform Database, User Interface and middleware development
-
Provide system documentation for users/partners (other researchers, technologists, clinicians, partnering industrial engineers)

Provide training for users: researchers, technologists and doctors
-
Collaborate closely with in-house personnel and outside partners developing data acquisition system and motion control development and provide feedback to data acquisition system development

Engineer critical infrastructure components to support image and patient data storage and retrieval,
user interface and middleware on dedicated medical imagers developed in the CAI nuclear medicine imaging instrumentation program
Technology Transfer

Maintain lab notebook and development journals to document Intellectual Property development

Coordinate interaction with the WVU technology transfer office and outside industrial partners

Manage transfer of software from the laboratory environment to pre-commercial and commercial prototypes

Complete disclosures and patent applications, whenever applicable
Skills and Service

Work on skill improvements via professional development and continued education

Attend research-relevant conferences

Present papers on software engineering projects

Work with students and lead/supervise their software related projects or tasks

Evaluate new software and hardware technologies for applicability in imaging systems developed
by the lab. -
Manage external communications for example via blog/podcast/wiki/Facebook/university web site
