Job Summary:
The Department of Physiology and Biophysics and the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine are seeking a vision scientist to fill an open-rank, tenure-eligible faculty position. The ideal candidate will be an outstanding individual whose research program includes mechanistic investigation of fundamental aspects of visual function, and in particular means of creating artificial vision through neuromodulation, retinal or brain prostheses, or other brain-computer interface. We especially encourage applicants with research interests that complement and extend both Departments’ existing research strengths in nervous system function and computational science (medschool.cuanschutz.edu/physiology) as well as diseases of the retina, and data science (

Appointees will join a vibrant and growing Department of Physiology and Biophysics under the new leadership of Dr. David DiGregorio – hired as Chair in January 2023 – with a commitment to mentoring faculty and trainees from diverse backgrounds, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Ophthalmology. Research interests in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics currently include sensory and motor systems neuroscience, computational neuroscience, ion channel biophysics, synaptic function, developmental neurobiology, cardiac and skeletal muscle physiology, and cell signaling. Research interests in the Department of Ophthalmology include retinal biology, development, human retinal organoids, cell and tissue transplantation, epidemiology, artificial intelligence, and systematic reviews. Extra-departmental interactions within neuroscience and physiology, including basic science and translational collaborations, are facilitated by several NIH-supported interdepartmental graduate programs and centers (e.g., Neuroscience Program, Computational Biology Program, and Integrated Physiology Program). In addition, the NeuroTechnology Center supports core facilities that include advanced light microscopy, super resolution nanoscopy, rodent in vivo behavior and electrophysiology, neural engineering, and a machine shop (medschool.cuanschutz.edu/neurotechnologycenter).

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as
Assistant Professor: $110,000-$150,000
Associate Professor: $135,000-$170,000
Full Professor: $160,000-$200,000
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
