Operating Room Assistant

The Operating Room Assistant is a self-motivated team member responsible for supporting surgical services through room turnover and supply management. This role includes teardown and setup of operating rooms, restocking OR supplies, performing cleaning duties, assembling case carts and linen packs, assisting with patient transport and positioning, and ensuring efficient workflow within the Operating Room.

This position reports to the Perioperative Manager/Surgical Services Director and is classified as hourly (non-exempt).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform room turnover, including teardown and setup of Operating Rooms

  • Restock and organize OR supplies

  • Perform routine and terminal cleaning duties

  • Assemble case carts and linen packs

  • Assist with patient transport and positioning

  • Assist physicians and surgical staff as needed during room preparation (non-clinical support)

  • Deliver specimens to the laboratory

  • Cross-train to support ancillary roles (e.g., scheduling, SPD, Pre-Op support)

  • Adhere to hospital-wide and departmental policies, procedures, and patient confidentiality standards

  • Support the organization’s mission, vision, and core values

  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED required

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred/required (adjust based on your internal requirement)

Experience:

  • Previous healthcare or surgical services experience preferred

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to recognize and respond immediately to the needs of the Operating Room to ensure efficient turnover

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented surgical environment

  • Strong communication skills

  • Knowledge of infection control and sterile processing principles preferred

Licensure, Registration, or Certification:

  • CNA certification (if required by department)

  • BLS certification preferred (if applicable to your facility standards)
