Job Summary

The OT Pharmacy Technician supports hospital pharmacists in managing medications and sterile supplies for the Operation Theatre. The role focuses on safe preparation, dispensing, and distribution of surgical, anesthetic, and emergency medications while ensuring strict compliance with infection control, safety, and hospital policies to support optimal surgical patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist hospital pharmacists in dispensing medications specifically for Operation Theatres
• Prepare, label, and supply anesthetic drugs, emergency medicines, and surgical consumables
• Support sterile medication preparation and IV admixtures under pharmacist supervision
• Ensure timely and accurate medication delivery to OT suites and recovery areas
• Maintain medication and narcotics records as per hospital and legal requirements
• Handle controlled drugs in compliance with hospital policy and regulatory standards
• Monitor OT pharmacy inventory, including stock levels, storage conditions, and expiry dates
• Ensure adherence to infection control, aseptic techniques, and OT safety protocols
• Coordinate with anesthetists, surgeons, nursing staff, and pharmacists for medication needs
• Participate in audits, documentation, and medication safety initiatives related to OT services

Qualifications & Skills

• Diploma of Pharmacy Technician / Dispenser
• Diploma in Pharmacy Technology or Pharmacy Assistant course
• Valid registration or license as a Pharmacy Technician (as per local authority)
• Knowledge of OT pharmacy operations, anesthetic drugs, and medication safety
• Familiarity with Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and pharmacy management systems
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced surgical environment
• Strong communication skills and teamwork ability

Experience

• 2–3 years of experience in a hospital pharmacy
• Prior experience in Operation Theatre or surgical pharmacy will be an advantage
