Key ResponsibilitiesPre-Operative (Before Surgery)
- OT Preparation: Set up the entire operating theatre, ensuring all instruments, equipment (lights, suction, cautery, anesthesia machine), and supplies are ready, sterile, and functional.
- Patient Handling: Assist in bringing the patient to the OR, positioning them safely on the table, and preparing the surgical site (skin prep).
- Inventory: Conduct inventory checks of surgical tools and materials, managing stock levels.
Intra-Operative (During Surgery)
- Surgical Assistance: Anticipate and provide necessary instruments, sutures, sponges, and other tools to the surgeon and surgical team.
- Equipment Management: Operate and monitor vital equipment like ventilators, heart-lung machines (if applicable), C-arms, and ensure they function correctly.
- Patient Safety: Assist with patient monitoring, applying restraints if needed, and maintaining a sterile field.
- Emergency Support: Assist the anesthetist in emergencies, ensuring oxygen/suction are constant.
Post-Operative (After Surgery)
- Cleanup: Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments and the operating room environment.
- Waste Management: Dispose of biomedical and hazardous waste according to hospital protocols.
- Patient Transfer: Assist in shifting the patient to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) or recovery room.
Multi-Specialty Aspect
- Versatility: Must be proficient across various surgical types (e.g., General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Urology, Ophthalmology, etc.).
- Specialized Knowledge: Understand the specific instruments, equipment, and protocols for different specialties.
General Duties
- Infection Control: Strictly follow all sterilization and infection control policies.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of procedures, equipment, and supply usage.
- Coordination: Work closely with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and support staff.
