The operations manager will be responsible for all aspects of the operations department and will manage inventory, equipment and building, processes, employee development and cost measures within the department.

The operations manager must effectively manage cost, processes and employees to ensure the product is being received, stored, and shipped in the most cost effective, efficient and safe manner. This will be achieved by analyzing and managing the inventory, equipment and building, processes and assist in employee development.

Job Description:

  • Management and motivation of supervisors and warehouse staff through effective and efficient leadership
  • Support the development of direct reports by identifying training opportunities and setting performance expectations
  • Work with Operations Supervisors to adjust and schedule staff according to production needs while being mindful of the financial impact of labor cost
  • Use effective personnel management skills to resolve employee complaints in a prompt, ethical, and fair manner
  • Use a high level of customer service and coordinate with multiple departments to ensure customer satisfaction and on-time delivery
  • Promote and demonstrate a safe work environment by following and supporting all internal safety procedures, compliance with OSHA/EPA regulations, and investigating and reporting all incidents of safety violations or injuries
  • Identify potential problems and implement solutions using collaboration and team-work skills
  • Manage the logistics plan of the facility, including company trucks and common carriers
  • Utilize reporting and production metrics in establishment of best practices and benchmarking
  • Implement and support continuous productivity improvements using LEAN methodologies
  • Oversee maintenance of the facility, grounds, and equipment
  • Use internal systems to manage the scheduling of material flow through the facility
  • Assist in the development of annual budget, capital expenditure plan, and forecast
  • Manage operational expenses to provide lowest cost solutions
  • Remains available to respond to any crisis, i.e., alarm system activated, injured personnel, or machinery breakdown/malfunction

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Operations or Warehouse Manager or preferred
  • At least 5 years of management experience in the metals distribution industry required
