Operating Room Materials Manager

Job Summary

An Operating Room (OR) Materials Manager oversees all supply chain activities within the operating room and related procedural areas. This includes managing inventory, ensuring timely delivery of supplies, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. They also work with clinical staff, often including physicians, to optimize supply management and identify cost-saving opportunities.


Essential Functions


Key Responsibilities of the OR Materials Manager:

  • Inventory Management:

Maintaining adequate supply levels, tracking inventory, and implementing efficient storage and distribution systems.

  • Procurement:

Sourcing and purchasing supplies, negotiating with vendors, and ensuring timely delivery of materials.

  • Cost Control:

Developing and implementing strategies to minimize supply costs and optimize resource utilization.

  • Quality Assurance:

Ensuring that all materials and equipment meet required quality standards and safety regulations.

  • Coordination:

Works with OR scheduling staff to coordinate vendor reps for case and supply coverage.

Issue post case bill only POs for items brought in by vendor reps.

  • Emergency Management:
  • Developing and maintaining emergency supply plans and ensuring the availability of critical items during emergencies.
  • Compliance:

Ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and guidelines related to materials management.

Other Duties

Specific Tasks Include:

  • Receiving and inspecting incoming shipments.
  • Stocking supply rooms and storage areas.
  • Verifying inventory levels and identifying potential shortages.
  • Distributing supplies to various hospital departments.
  • Maintaining accurate records of inventory and transactions.
  • Conducting regular inventory counts and cycle counts.
  • Participating in value analysis committees to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures for materials management.

Minimum Education/Certifications


High School Diploma or GED, associate's degree preferred.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in inventory management systems and software.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of sterile processing and infection control practices (in some roles).

Minimum Work Experience

3-5 Years of hospital materials management experience

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

7:30-15:30 Monday thru Friday


Physical Requirements
:

Able to use a personal computer. Able to stand for extended periods of time, to reach and perform lifting (occasionally) of up to 50 pounds).

Working Conditions:

Office environment and occasional exposure to manufacturing plant environment, with some abnormal variations in temperature, unavoidable fumes, noise, dust, and atmospheric conditions.

The salary range does not include bonuses/incentives, differential pay or other forms of compensation which can be discussed in detail with your talent acquisition specialist.


The salary/hourly rate range for this position is: $75K- $85k
