Operations Manager, Solid Waste Management

Summary:
For directing, managing, and overseeing the activities and operation of the solid waste collection and disposal functions. Coordinates assigned activities with other departments, outside agencies, vendors, subcontractors and customers. This position reports to the Director of Operations.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and evaluate the overall operational performance of all contracts.
  • Recognize when project performance is out-of-standard.
  • Guide and support Project Managers, Supervisors in maintaining and restoring expected project performance standards.
  • Train Project Managers, drivers, mechanic, and other team members.
  • Fleet management including authorizing fleet repairs and maintenance.
  • Enforce proper safety standards and precautions with risk migration. Attend and provide safety training.
  • Represent the company in this region with customers, vendors, and employees.
  • Work with Project team on the development of collection routes, schedules and right sizing.
  • Apply operational improvements.
  • Implementation of short and long-range strategic goals, objectives, policies, and priorities.
  • Review and negotiate landfill, vendors, subcontractor rates and fees, fleet repair and maintenance costs, monitor recycling revenues and research new markets.
  • Review and approval of Project purchases and reports. Adherence to budget is a must. Explain deviations.
  • Review and approval of Project expenses.
  • New Project Phase-In activities to include setup and hiring/training, supply and equipment purchases and management.
  • Terminated Project Phase-Out processing and activities.
  • Do performance review of Project Managers, and team members.
  • Other tasks in support project as assigned.

Requirements and Skill Sets:

  • 10 years of operating heavy equipment such as refuse trucks, front-end loaders, roll-offs, etc.
  • Considerable local knowledge of solid waste management rules, regulations, methods, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and basic repair of a variety of solid waste equipment’s containers, compactors and tools.
  • Five years minimum on a position focused on dealing specifically with customer service or customer-related activities.
  • Possession of the valid CDL Class B license.
  • Proficient in the English language; reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, email, reporting, and other common computer activities.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks at the same time under pressure and the reform have the know-how to manage time effectively.
  • Must be results-oriented, take initiative, and be self-motivated.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties.
  • Ability to obtain federal security clearance as required.
  • College Education with bachelor's and above is required or compensated with additional with direct experience.
  • Ability to travel 60% of the time including some weekends and holidays for emergencies and project transitions

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $85,000.00 per year
