JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Operations – Spray Technician

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

JOB GOAL: To care for and maintain District grounds in order to provide a pleasant and functional outdoor environment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a comparable position or a combination of training/experience preferred
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to become certified/permitted as required by law and maintain certification
  • Meet Hoover City Schools insurable driver requirements
  • Ability to instruct others in the performance of tasks
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Ability to read, interpret, and/or follow plans, directions, and specifications
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work with limited direct supervision
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain mowers, trimmers, edgers, etc.
  • Ability to make estimates of time and material needed for efficient project completion
  • Ability to engage in prolonged sitting or standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching
  • Strength, agility, and stamina to routinely perform repetitive/physically demanding duties which include the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and to exert up to seventy-five (75) pounds of force
  • Ability and willingness to work primarily outdoors year-round in various temperatures and weather conditions
  • Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays if necessary
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance
  • Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
  • Such Alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal and local law and the Board may require

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities

2. Monitors grounds for potential turf/ornamental problems and applies various chemicals and fertilizers as necessary

3. Maintains spray and application equipment; organizes and maintains area(s) where chemicals and fertilizers are kept

4. Assists in all areas of grounds-keeping as requested to include:

a. Maintains grass/turf on playing fields and lawns surrounding schools including mowing, edging, and weeding

b. Weeds and mulches landscape beds

c. Trims hedges, shrubs, and trees

d. Removes dead, damaged, or unwanted trees

e. Plants flowers, trees, and shrubs

f. Waters lawns, landscapes, and gardens

g. Maintains fencing around properties as requested

h. Maintains grounds-keeping equipment

i. Assists in moving equipment such as bleachers, choral risers, platforms, sound systems, tables, chairs, etc.

5. Estimates materials and resources necessary for completion of jobs

6. Completes work in a timely manner without close supervision

7. Prioritizes tasks and uses time wisely

8. Uses problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and effective interpersonal skills to effectively and efficiently complete assignments

9. Engages in work-related training to increase knowledge and skills as directed and/or for advancement

10. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters

11. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility

12. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel

13. Responds to inquiries, requests, and constructive feedback in a timely and positive manner

14. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner

15. Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school system

16. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures

17. Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal and local laws

18. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
