Ophthalmic Assistant / Technician

Job Summary

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and conduct intake procedures to gather relevant medical history
  • Perform patient pre-testing (auto-refraction, OCT, visual fields, etc.), visual acuity, intraocular pressure
  • Assist doctor during exams and procedures
  • Scribe when needed
  • Maintain efficient patient flow while delivering an elevated patient experience
  • Educate patients on treatments and eyewear options
  • Maintain strict aseptic techniques during all clinical procedures to ensure patient safety and comply with HIPAA regulations
  • Manage medical records efficiently using electronic health record (EHR) systems
  • Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, handling patient inquiries, and managing retail sales of eyewear products
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure clinic operations run smoothly, including inventory management of optical supplies and retail items
  • Educate patients on eye health, treatment plans, and proper use of prescribed eyewear or medications

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a medical office setting or ophthalmology clinic is preferred (willing to train the right candidate)
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to eye health
  • Familiarity with optical equipment such as slit lamps, autorefractors, and visual field analyzers
  • Ability to perform intake procedures accurately while maintaining patient confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines
  • Experience with EMR systems or similar platforms for documentation and record keeping
  • Excellent patient care skills with a friendly, professional demeanor
  • Basic retail math skills for managing eyewear sales and inventory control
  • Knowledge of medical billing and coding processes related to ophthalmic services is a plus
  • Pediatric experience is advantageous for working effectively with young patients

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
