Duties
- Conduct patient intake by gathering medical history, updating records, and ensuring HIPAA compliance to protect patient privacy.
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation to assist in comprehensive assessments.
- Perform ophthalmic diagnostic tests including visual acuity, intraocular pressure measurements, and slit-lamp examinations using aseptic technique.
- Assist ophthalmologists during examinations and procedures by preparing instruments and maintaining a sterile environment.
- Manage medical records accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or other EMR platforms, ensuring all data is current and complete.
- Educate patients on eye health, treatment plans, and post-procedure care while addressing questions with clarity and professionalism.
- Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing patient flow efficiently.
- Maintain inventory of ophthalmic supplies and ensure proper storage following aseptic techniques for infection control.
- Collaborate with the team on medical coding and billing processes related to ophthalmology services to ensure accurate reimbursement.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmology procedures, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to eye care.
- Proven experience with optical devices, diagnostic equipment, EMR systems such as Epic, and medical records management.
- Excellent patient care skills with a compassionate approach tailored to diverse populations including pediatrics.
- Ability to perform intake assessments, vital signs measurement, and maintain HIPAA compliance diligently.
- Familiarity with aseptic technique to prevent infection during examinations and procedures.
- Retail sales experience helpful for understanding retail math concepts when managing optical sales or product recommendations.
- Effective communication skills for front desk interactions, patient education, and team collaboration in a busy clinic setting.
