Ophthalmic Technician / Scribe

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Ophthalmic Scribe to support one of our senior ophthalmologists by accurately documenting patient encounters in the electronic health record (EHR). The scribe plays a critical role in enhancing physician efficiency, improving documentation accuracy, and helping ensure an exceptional patient experience.

This position is ideal for someone interested in ophthalmology, healthcare operations, or pursuing advanced clinical training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document real-time patient encounters in the EHR, including:
  • Chief complaint and history of present illness (HPI)
  • Review of systems
  • Medical and ocular history
  • Examination findings
  • Diagnostic test results
  • Assessment and plan
  • Accurately enter ophthalmic exam data including visual acuity, refraction, intraocular pressure, slit lamp findings, dilated fundus exam findings, and imaging interpretation as dictated by the physician
  • Prepare patient charts prior to clinic sessions (review prior visits, imaging, medications, and relevant history)
  • Assist with EHR workflow efficiency and maintain compliance with documentation standards
  • Ensure charts are complete and ready for physician review and signature
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
  • Support smooth clinic flow by anticipating physician needs during patient encounters

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong typing skills and comfort with electronic documentation
  • Excellent listening skills and attention to detail
  • Professional demeanor and strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment

Preferred:

  • Prior experience as a medical scribe
  • Ophthalmology or optometry experience
  • Familiarity with ophthalmic terminology
  • Experience with EHR systems (e.g., Compulink, Epic, NextGen, etc.)

Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
