Ophthalmic Technician-Work Up & Diagnostic Imaging

Job Overview
Retina Specialists of Mississippi is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Ophthalmic Technician to join our dynamic team. This role involves performing ophthalmic procedures under the direction and/or supervision of an ophthalmologist, conducting patient screenings, diagnostic testing, patient education, and administrative tasks. The ideal candidate is a team player with a passion for excellent patient care, strong communication skills, and proficiency with technology.

Duties

  • Obtain and update detailed patient medical histories in an electronic medical record.
  • Perform diagnostic tests, including visual acuity, eye pressure measurements, visual field examinations, and other ocular assessments.
  • Administer topical ophthalmic medications, such as dilation eye drops, as directed by the ophthalmologist.
  • Assist physicians during examinations and ophthalmic procedures.
  • Conduct diagnostic imaging and prepare patients for physician consultations.
  • Provide patient education on home care.
  • Perform administrative duties, such as managing correspondence.
  • Perform scribing duties to document patient encounters accurately.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Some college education preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited ophthalmic program or two (2) years of related experience preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Previous medical office experience is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, ocular anatomy, ophthalmic pharmacology, and eye diseases.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic and treatment procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate ophthalmic equipment and administer preliminary screening examinations.
  • Comfortable using laptop and desktop computers, iPads, and electronic medical record systems.
  • Compassionate, polite, and kind demeanor with a desire to help others.
  • Reliable, well-spoken, and an active listener.
