Job Overview
Retina Specialists of Mississippi is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Ophthalmic Technician to join our dynamic team. This role involves performing ophthalmic procedures under the direction and/or supervision of an ophthalmologist, conducting patient screenings, diagnostic testing, patient education, and administrative tasks. The ideal candidate is a team player with a passion for excellent patient care, strong communication skills, and proficiency with technology.
Duties
- Obtain and update detailed patient medical histories in an electronic medical record.
- Perform diagnostic tests, including visual acuity, eye pressure measurements, visual field examinations, and other ocular assessments.
- Administer topical ophthalmic medications, such as dilation eye drops, as directed by the ophthalmologist.
- Assist physicians during examinations and ophthalmic procedures.
- Conduct diagnostic imaging and prepare patients for physician consultations.
- Provide patient education on home care.
- Perform administrative duties, such as managing correspondence.
- Perform scribing duties to document patient encounters accurately.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma required.
- Some college education preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited ophthalmic program or two (2) years of related experience preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred.
- Previous medical office experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, ocular anatomy, ophthalmic pharmacology, and eye diseases.
- Proficiency in diagnostic and treatment procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to operate ophthalmic equipment and administer preliminary screening examinations.
- Comfortable using laptop and desktop computers, iPads, and electronic medical record systems.
- Compassionate, polite, and kind demeanor with a desire to help others.
- Reliable, well-spoken, and an active listener.
