Optical Engineer Intern

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Optical Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing optical systems and components. This role requires a strong foundation in both optical engineering principles and electrical systems, with an emphasis on integrating advanced technologies into practical applications. The Optical Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project goals are met efficiently and effectively.

Duties

  • Design and develop optical systems, including lenses, sensors, and imaging systems.
  • Conduct root cause analysis to troubleshoot and resolve issues in optical designs.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate optical components with electrical systems.
  • Utilize CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or SolidWorks for system design and schematics.
  • Perform signal processing and debugging of optical systems using programming languages like Python, C++, or MATLAB.
  • Manage project scheduling to ensure timely completion of development milestones.
  • Engage in manufacturing processes including surface mount technology (SMT) and soldering of optical components.
  • Develop firmware for programmable logic controllers (PLCs) related to optical systems.
  • Conduct vision inspection system evaluations to ensure quality standards are met.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a BS/MS degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in FPGA design and implementation is preferred.
  • Experience with SystemVerilog for hardware description is a plus.
  • Familiarity with quantum engineering concepts is desirable.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge related to optical system integration.
  • Experience using simulation tools such as Simulink for system modeling.
  • Knowledge of NEC standards as they relate to electrical systems is beneficial.
  • Ability to work with various software tools including MicroStation for design purposes.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in root cause analysis and debugging techniques.
  • Familiarity with Arduino platforms for prototyping optical applications is advantageous.
