Optician Technician

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optician Technician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in optometry, medical terminology, and laboratory procedures, with a passion for providing exceptional patient care. As an integral part of our optical services, the Optician Technician will assist in patient examinations, frame fittings, and lens selections while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA. Duties

  • Assist optometrists during patient examinations by preparing necessary equipment and documentation.
  • Take and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, and other relevant health metrics.
  • Conduct laboratory tasks such as lens trimming, fitting, and adjustments to ensure optimal visual correction.
  • Manage medical records accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or similar platforms.
  • Provide patients with detailed explanations of optical products, including frames and lenses, while supporting retail sales efforts.
  • Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures to uphold safety and hygiene standards within the clinic environment.
  • Support medical billing and coding processes related to optical services to ensure accurate insurance claims processing.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations concerning patient privacy and data security.
  • Assist in inventory management of optical supplies, including lenses, frames, and medical equipment.
  • Educate patients on proper eye care practices tailored for specific populations such as pediatrics or senior care.

Experience

  • Prior experience working in optometry clinics or optical retail environments is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology related to eye health, anatomy, physiology, and laboratory procedures.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or other electronic health record platforms used in clinical settings.
  • Experience with medical billing and coding practices specific to ophthalmic services is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive patient information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of optical products, including lenses, frames, and vision correction options.
