Job Purpose
To provide comprehensive eye and vision care services, including eye examinations, diagnosis of vision problems, prescription of corrective lenses, and early detection of eye diseases, while working collaboratively with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
Perform vision tests and eye examinations to evaluate visual acuity, depth perception, color vision, and focusing ability.
Prescribe, fit, and adjust eyeglasses and contact lenses.
Detect and diagnose eye abnormalities (e.g., glaucoma, cataracts, retinal issues) and refer to ophthalmologists for medical or surgical treatment.
Provide low-vision rehabilitation and vision therapy when required.
Assist in pre- and post-operative assessments of patients undergoing eye surgery (e.g., LASIK, cataract surgery).
Patient Care
Educate patients on eye health, preventive care, and proper use of corrective lenses.
Counsel patients regarding lifestyle adjustments to improve vision health.
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records of eye examinations and treatments.
Collaboration & Coordination
Work in collaboration with ophthalmologists, opticians, and nurses within the Ophthalmology Department.
Participate in multidisciplinary medical teams when patient cases require joint care.
Administrative & Compliance
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, medical standards, and health regulations.
Contribute to departmental quality improvement programs and research projects.
Stay updated with advancements in optometry and attend professional training sessions.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Optometry (Doctor of Optometry preferred in some hospitals).
Valid license/registration from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
Minimum 1–3 years of clinical experience in hospitals or eye clinics.
Strong knowledge of diagnostic equipment (e.g., autorefractors, slit-lamp, retinoscope, tonometer).
Excellent communication and patient care skills.

Proficiency in both Arabic and English (preferred in Saudi hospitals).
