Orthodontic Assistant

This is a full-time position and will travel to all 3 of our locations (Hartland, Howell, and Chelsea).

Role Summary:

The Assistant will perform limited clinical duties under the direction of a licensed Doctor. Clinical duties may include equipment preparation and sterilization, preparing patients for treatment, assisting the Doctor during treatment, and providing patients with instructions for oral healthcare procedures. The Assistant may perform administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining dental records, billing, and coding information for coding purposes. They may also perform tasks in maintaining the cleanliness of the office. The Assistant will assist the Doctor, set up equipment, prepare patients for treatment, and keep records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patient, sterilize, or disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials or assist dentist during dental procedures. 
  • Assist Doctor in management of medical or dental emergencies. 
  • Order and monitor dental supplies and equipment inventory. 
  • Expose dental diagnostic x-rays 
  • Make preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts.
  • Pour, trim, and polish study casts. 
  • Work with the Doctor to fabricate temporary restorations or custom impressions from preliminary impressions.
  • Fabricate and fit orthodontic appliances and materials for patients, such as retainers, wires, or bands; Fabricates temporary restorations or custom impressions from preliminary impressions. 
  • Taking quality intraoral and extraoral photographs.
  • Clean and polish removable appliances  
  • Apply protective coating of fluoride to teeth.
  • Provide post-operative instructions prescribed by the dentist.
  • Instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs. 
  • Take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients. 
  • Record treatment information in patient records. 
  • Schedule appointments, prepare bills and receive payment for dental services, complete insurance forms, and maintain records, manually or using a computer. 

Experience & Qualifications/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Able to deliver Orthodontic appliances, if applicable
  • Proficient in iTero scanner to capture digital models for records or Invisalign, if applicable.
  • 1 – 2 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPR Certified preferred.
  • Post-secondary certificate from an accredited Dental Assistant Program preferred.
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent GED).
  • Proficient in Dolphin system and Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
