Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Orthodontic Assistant to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess strong dental assisting skills, particularly in orthodontics, and have a passion for delivering outstanding patient care. In this role, you will support the orthodontist with chairside procedures, patient management, and administrative tasks to ensure smooth clinic operations and excellent patient experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the orthodontist during various procedures, including bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance management using aseptic techniques.
  • Prepare treatment rooms with necessary supplies and ensure all equipment is sterilized and functioning properly.
  • Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans, while adhering to infection control protocols and HIPAA regulations.
  • Manage patient records accurately within electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards.
  • Educate patients on orthodontic care, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices tailored for pediatric dentistry and general dentistry needs.
  • Monitor vital signs when necessary and assist with medical documentation related to patient health status.
  • Support the dental team with administrative duties such as scheduling appointments and managing medical records efficiently.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in dental assisting with a focus on orthodontics or pediatric dentistry preferred.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix; familiarity with Epic is a plus.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures, aseptic technique, dental terminology, and anatomy relevant to dental assisting.
  • Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners accurately.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, medical coding, and medical documentation standards.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Certification in dental assisting or equivalent training; additional certifications in endodontics or prosthodontics are advantageous. Pay: $38,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
