Duties
- Assist orthodontists during various procedures including bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance fittings with precision and care.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment such as 3D scanners and medical imaging devices are ready for use.
- Take and develop dental X-rays, ensuring proper technique and patient safety in compliance with infection control protocols and HIPAA regulations.
- Manage patient records using EMR systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft, accurately documenting treatment plans, medical history, and progress notes.
- Educate patients on orthodontic care instructions, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices tailored for pediatric dentistry and general dentistry needs.
- Support the dental reception area by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and handling patient inquiries with professionalism.
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques to uphold infection control standards across all clinical procedures while supporting the team in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Assist with medical documentation including medical coding and records management to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate seamlessly with the team using four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize efficiency during procedures.
- Monitor vital signs when necessary to ensure patient comfort and safety throughout treatments.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic setting is essential; familiarity with dental assisting duties in pediatric or general dentistry is highly preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft is required; experience with Epic or similar platforms is a plus.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques is crucial for success in this role.
- Hands-on experience with X-ray technology, 3D scanners, medical imaging devices, and medical documentation enhances your ability to excel.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations ensures confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Experience supporting orthodontic procedures including appliance placement and adjustments is highly desirable.
