OT Scrub Nurse

Preoperative Preparation:

• Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and necessary equipment.




• Check sterilization and availability of required surgical packs and supplies.

Scrub Role Duties:

• Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and maintaining a sterile field.




• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and ensure timely instrument handling.




• Maintain aseptic technique throughout the surgical procedure.

Instrument and Equipment Handling:

• Ensure proper functioning and sterilization of surgical instruments before and after the surgery.




• Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgery along with circulating nurse.

Patient Safety and Documentation:

• Verify patient identity, surgical site, and consent with the surgical team.




• Document intraoperative nursing care and instrument usage as per hospital protocols.

Postoperative Responsibilities:

• Assist in safe transfer of the patient to recovery or post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).




• Clean, disinfect, and prepare the OT for the next surgery.

Team Coordination:

• Coordinate with anesthetists, circulating nurses, and surgeons to ensure smooth OT flow.




• Participate in surgical team briefings and debriefings.

Compliance and Safety:

• Follow infection control, sterilization, and waste disposal protocols strictly.




• Adhere to hospital safety, emergency, and quality control policies.
