OT Staff Nurse

An OT (Operating Theatre) Staff Nurse's job description involves providing care before, during, and after surgery by preparing the operating room, assisting the surgical team, monitoring the patient, and maintaining a sterile environment. Key responsibilities include ensuring all instruments are sterile, monitoring vital signs, maintaining patient records, and providing both pre- and post-operative care.

Key responsibilities

1. Patient preparation: Prepare patients for surgery, including pre-operative checks and hygiene protocols like cleaning surgical sites.

2. Operating room management: Ensure the operating room is clean, sterile, and well- stocked with necessary instruments and supplies before each procedure.

3. Surgical assistance: Assist the surgeon and anesthesiologist during operations by anticipating their needs and providing instruments and other supplies.

4. Patient monitoring: Monitor the patient's vital signs and overall condition during surgery and respond to emergencies.

5. Post-operative care: Provide post-operative care and ensure the patient is safely transported to the recovery area.

6. Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and document all surgical procedures and care provided.

7. Adherence to protocols: Ensure strict adherence to infection control, asepsis, and safety protocols at all times.

8. Team collaboration: Coordinate with other healthcare professionals, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other nursing staff, to provide a coordinated approach to patient care.

9. Training and supervision: Supervise and train other staff members, such as nurse aides and cleaners, as directed.

10. Inventory control: Manage and control the stock of instruments, materials, and equipment to ensure efficient use.
