Job Description: Outreach and Education Specialist
Compensation: ($21.00 per Hour)
NOTE: This position is grant-funded year to year, and continued employment is contingent upon funding availability.
Employment Status: Hourly, Part-Time
Reports to: Client Services Manager
Job Summary:
The part-time Outreach and Education Specialist will work with staff to improve and expand current outreach and education initiatives, programs, and strategies. The primary responsibility of the Outreach and Education Specialist is to increase awareness about domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, trafficking, and stalking. This position will primarily focus on the intersection of domestic and sexual violence in the workplace, as well as training to increase active bystander intervention.
Duties and responsibilities
- Develop and implement prevention education trainings and workshops to community partners.
- Build, cultivate, and maintain relationships with local businesses to ensure ongoing program participation and evaluation.
- Communicate with members of the public and donors about the issues of domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, human trafficking, and available services.
- Provide support for outreach services such as networking, lectures, trainings, speaking engagements, and health fairs to increase public education and awareness.
- Maintain relationships with partnered non-profit agencies.
- Assist on community committees for awareness campaigns (i.e. Take Back the Night, International Women’s Day, Domestic Violence Awareness Month.)
- In conjunction with the Client Services Manager, create and implement a community outreach plan for Safe Embrace Events (i.e., Human Trafficking Awareness, Teen Dating Violence, Sexual Assault Awareness, Domestic Violence Awareness).
- Coordinate with the social media team.
- Assist with creating content, following trends, and coordinating Awareness Day photos.
- Assists with PR team and media opportunities
- Create marketing materials for agency events, social media, community groups, and involvement.
- Document all program activities as required. Assists with compiling grant and board reports.
- Assist with developing program materials for clients and community members.
- Facilitate regular reoccurring support groups for public victims when appropriate.
- Support agency events through attendance as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet program and agency objectives.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Successfully pass a federal and state criminal background check for Safe Embrace and Washoe County School District.
- Complete a comprehensive drug screening.
- High school diploma, associate’s degree, or relevant work experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective public speaker and presenter, capable of facilitating training and group presentations to diverse audiences across various settings.
- Proficient in marketing and outreach strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently or collaboratively in a team environment, and maintain organization with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills to engage with business professionals, the public, media outlets, community organizations, donors, and grant administrators.
- Completion of a 40-hour advocate training (required).
- Proficiency in standard office equipment and software, including MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel), email, and shared network drives.
- Ability to manage stress in high-pressure, crisis situations.
- Strong boundaries and ethical relationship management.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining a warm, collaborative rapport with a small team of dedicated staff and volunteers in a high-stress environment.
- Capacity to lift 40 pounds.

● Experience with dual-use shelter programs (domestic violence & sexual assault), homeless shelters, substance abuse programs, and social services programs.
