Position Overview

The Overhead Crane Operator is responsible for safely operating overhead cranes to move, lift, and position materials within the facility. This role requires strong attention to safety, precision, and coordination to support smooth production operations, particularly in manufacturing, steel, or warehouse environments.

Key Responsibilities

Crane Operation

· Operate overhead cranes, hoists, and other lifting equipment to transport materials safely and efficiently.

· Perform pre-operation checks to ensure crane functionality and safety compliance.

· Maneuver loads using pendant, radio, or cabin controls depending on crane type.

· Follow designated routes and stacking procedures to maintain order and workflow.

Material Handling

· Lift, move, and position raw materials, finished goods, and equipment as required by production or warehouse activities.

· Ensure loads are properly rigged and balanced before lifting.

· Coordinate with ground personnel to execute safe lifting operations.

· Report any damaged materials or equipment.

Safety & Compliance

· Comply with all safety guidelines, company policies, and regulatory standards related to crane operation.

· Identify and report near misses, hazards, equipment malfunctions, or unsafe conditions.

· Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and crane inspections.

· Maintain clean and safe work areas around crane operating zones.

Equipment Care

· Conduct routine checks and assist with minor maintenance tasks.

· Record daily crane operation logs, inspection reports, and incident reports if necessary.

· Notify maintenance teams of required repairs or abnormalities.

Coordination & Communication

· Communicate clearly with supervisors and production staff to ensure smooth operations.

· Follow instructions precisely and coordinate movements with the team to avoid collisions or damage.

· Support production goals by responding quickly to material handling needs.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

· High school or equivalent work experience is required.

Experience

· 1-2 years of work experience in operating overhead cranes in a manufacturing, steel, or warehouse environment preferred.

Skills

· Knowledge of safe lifting procedures, load limits, and material handling best practices.

· Ability to read load charts, understand crane controls, and follow safety signage.

· Strong attention to detail, hand-eye coordination, and situational awareness.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract
