Overnight Critical Facility Engineer

Reports to: Director of Facilities
Compensation: Non-Exempt
Hours: Overnights – Shift Options:
  • Sunday through Tuesday, and every other Wednesday; 6:00pm – 6:30am
  • Thursday through Saturday, and every other Wednesday; 6:00pm – 6:30am

Who is the Scott Technology Center, Scott Data Center, and Scott Managed Services?
The Scott Technology Center opened in 2002 as a complimentary mission of the Peter Kiewit Institute. The Technology Center is comprised of 140,000 square feet of offices, labs and collaborative space hosting various industry, government, and academic organizations. In 2006, the Scott Data Center began operations. The 110,000 square foot purpose-built data center is Uptime Institute Tier 3 Certified in both design and construction. In 2022, Scott Managed Services launched in response to the changing data center industry and validated requirements from data center clients. The Scott Technology, Data Center and Managed Services are headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska but are expanding geographically through key strategic partnerships.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The Overnight Critical Facility Engineer is primarily responsible for responding to alarms to resolve issues with the mechanical and electrical systems operations for the Scott Data Center and upkeep of the remainder of the Scott Technology Center campus
  • Escalate unresolvable issues to an on-call engineer for additional support by providing a clear problem statement
  • Make routine cosmetic repairs to the facilities, such as painting, hardware repairs, etc.
  • Manage assigned preventative maintenance and corrective work orders, including tracking of repair time and documenting fixes electronically
  • Meet expectations for attendance and punctuality in accordance with the expectations established by your manager and NoAK Management LLC policy
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Skill Base:
Critical Facility Engineer should have a fundamental understanding of the operation of electrical and HVAC systems including, but not limited to:

  • Understanding of basic electrical theory and operation (voltage, current, power factor, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of HVAC and boiler systems
  • Ability to utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures to find a root cause and execute a repair
  • Computer skills, including the ability to navigate Building Control/Building Management systems


Additional Experience is a Plus:
  • Understanding of high voltage electrical equipment, such as switchgears and generators
  • Exposure to and/or experience with data centers/critical facilities
  • Experience with low voltage installation and documentation
  • Experience with telecommunications cabling/fiber installation and documentation
  • Facility remodeling including replacement of flooring, ceilings, painting, drywall, and plumbing
  • Ability to create reports

Education and Experience:
  • A college degree or trade certificate in the relevant field is preferred but not required.
  • 6 months to 2 years in the building engineering, HVAC, Electrical or mechanical may be considered in lieu of education
  • Valid driver’s license
