Overnight Pet Sitter

Do you enjoy working with animals and have a schedule that allows for regular overnight pet care? Pooches & Smooches Pet Sitting is seeking a reliable, experienced pet care specialist to care for pets in their own homes while their families travel.

This 1099 independent contractor position focuses primarily on overnight stays, with additional earning opportunities through evening, weekend, and holiday visits. This opportunity may be a great fit for someone who works remotely, has a flexible daytime schedule, and is looking for meaningful supplemental income.

About the Opportunity

Our overnight sitters stay in clients' homes while they are away, helping pets maintain their normal routines in a familiar environment. Responsibilities generally include feeding, administering medications, refreshing water, potty breaks and walks, scooping litter boxes, playtime, and companionship.

Sitters are expected to follow detailed care instructions, capture quality photos, and send thoughtful reports that give clients peace of mind while they are away from home. Light housekeeping tasks may also include cleaning up pet messes, taking out trash, bringing in mail and packages, and keeping the home tidy.

For overnight bookings, sitters must be able to:

• Provide attentive morning, afternoon, and evening care; ensuring pets are not left alone for more than approximately 6 hours at a time throughout the day
• Be settled into the client's home for the night by approximately 10pm
• Follow each household's individualized care routine

Bookings may range from a single night to a week or longer.

Compensation

• Contractors earn 50% commission on all services, with opportunities for commission increases based on experience, performance, and dependability
• Additional income opportunities are available through evening, weekend, and holiday visits.
• Booking volume varies based on client demand, seasonality, service needs, and contractor availability

Availability

This opportunity is specifically intended for someone with substantial and dependable overnight availability. Applicants should generally have the capacity to accept at least 10+ nights of overnight care per month, with strong availability during:

• Most weekends
• Some weekday evenings (roughly 5pm-10pm)
• Holidays and peak travel periods

You do not need to be available every night or every weekend. However, because overnight and travel care are the primary focus of this role, and weekends and holidays are among our highest-demand periods, consistent availability during these times is essential.

Who We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate is:

• Exceptionally reliable and communicative
• Experienced and confident working with dogs, cats, and other types of pets
• Knowledgeable in pet behavior and body language
• Comfortable staying overnight alone in clients' homes
• Observant and attentive to details, with the ability to recognize changes in a pet's health or behavior
• Comfortable caring for pets of different sizes, breeds, ages, personalities, and energy levels
• Respectful of clients' homes, privacy, and security

Professional animal-care experience is strongly preferred. Experience in veterinary clinics, boarding or daycare facilities, shelters, rescue organizations, grooming, dog training, or professional pet sitting is especially valuable.

Requirements

Candidates must:

• Be 18 years of age or older and willing to complete a background check
• Have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
• Be comfortable staying overnight alone in clients' homes
• Be physically able to walk and safely handle dogs
• Be dependable in varying weather conditions
• Be willing to complete Pet First Aid/CPR certification
• Be able to reliably serve clients within our Nashville, Brentwood, and Franklin service areas
