P6 Administrator for Project Controls

Job Summary
SMSI is hiring multiple senior level P6 Administrators to support Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, New Mexico. These are hybrid positions, working 2 weeks onsite and 2 weeks remotely. The P6 Administrator will support the backend and schedules for Oracle based servers. Candidates must be able to work the software side and layouts of P6. The successful candidate will work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams, interfacing with engineering and operations to ensure consistent project controls practices that support strategic execution and mission success.
Location
This position is hybrid and will work a schedule rotating from 2 weeks onsite to 2 weeks remote. LANL will provide travel to and from Los Alamos every 2 weeks, per diem, and lodging expenses. When working remotely, the candidate should be able to work between the hours of 9:00-4:00 MST. This position typically works a schedule of 9/80's, with every other Friday off of work.
Responsibilities
  • Senior level P6 administration and backend support for Oracle based servers.
  • Adheres to the Plutonium Facilities Engineering Division’s policies, programs, procedures, and practices.
  • Verifies the adequacy and completeness of Plutonium Facilities Engineering schedule updates.
  • Performs schedule development, analysis, and maintenance using Primavera P6 or similar scheduling tools.
  • Develops and maintains detailed resource-loaded schedules that align with project scope, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Monitors schedule performance, identify variances, and provide actionable recovery strategies.
  • Prepares and deliver comprehensive project controls reports (daily, weekly, monthly) to project engineers, engineering leads, and stakeholders.
  • Ensures data integrity and compliance with internal procedures.
  • Provides mentoring and guidance to junior project controls staff.
Required Skills
  • Position requires a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in P6 Administration and prefer at least 20 years of experience in Project Controls.
  • Experience working with the backend and schedules of P6 administration is required.
  • LANL's P6 servers are Oracle based based so knowledge of Oracle systems is beneficial but not required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
  • Effective communication skills necessary to communicate, contribute, and be a part of a team.
  • Advanced knowledge of project controls principles, including CPM scheduling and performance measurement.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with earned value management principles and application.
  • Strong understanding of engineering and construction workflows.
  • Effective problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with DOE, NNSA, or nuclear facility project requirements is a plus.
  • This position requires that the candidate is a US Citizen.
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Q clearance.
  • Candidates with an active clearance are preferred.
  • The candidate must be able to travel to Los Alamos to work onsite at LANL every 2 weeks.
  • The candidate must have reliable high speed internet while working the rotating 2 weeks remotely.
Education Requirements
  • Most candidates will have a bachelor's or master's degree at this level.
  • Position requires a minimum of 20-25 years of experience in project controls, preferably supporting complex engineering and construction projects, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; bachelor's degree is equivalent to 4 years of experience, associate's degree is equivalent to 2 years of experience.
  • PMI-SP, PMP, AACE, or similar certifications are a plus.
