Packaging Designer (Licensed Toys, Home & Accessories)
Position Overview
We are looking for a versatile Packaging Designer who can own packaging from concept through production—balancing creative execution with real-world constraints like licensor requirements, legal compliance, cost, and manufacturing.
To be successful in this role you should be just as comfortable designing a compelling and innovative box for a mystery bag charm as you are making sure the legal lines, trademarks, and safety requirements are flawless.
This is a highly collaborative role with real ownership. You’ll work across teams, guide packaging direction, own the ultimate execution and help elevate how our product shows up at retail.
What You’ll Do
Lead Packaging Design from Concept to Production
- Design packaging across multiple formats: blister cards, hangtags, window boxes, gift sets, PDQs, and more
- Create dielines, layouts, and production-ready files
- Develop presentation-ready mockups for internal reviews and licensors
- Build packaging that is both visually impactful and retail-ready
Own Licensing + Legal Execution
- Apply and manage legal lines, trademarks (™ ® ©), and copyright notices with precision
- Ensure all packaging meets licensor style guides and approval standards
- Prepare and submit packaging for licensor approvals
- Maintain consistency and brand vision across multiple licensed properties
- Catch issues before they become problems—this role requires a sharp eye for compliance
Ensure Regulatory & Retail Readiness
- Incorporate all required packaging elements:
- Age grading
- Safety warnings
- Country of origin
- Barcode/UPC placement
- Work within toy and consumer product regulations (CPSIA, ASTM, etc.)
- Ensure packaging is built for real-world retail environments
Collaborate Cross-Functionally
- Partner with:
- Product Development and Sourcing
- Creative
- Sales
- Licensing
- Marketing
- Overseas factories
- Align packaging with cost targets, timelines, and manufacturing capabilities
- Help guide packaging decisions that impact the broader product line
Drive Quality Through Production
- Prepare print-ready files and production specs
- Review proofs, materials, and finishes (foil, emboss, spot UV, etc.)
- Work directly with factories to ensure packaging executes correctly
- Maintain design integrity from concept to final production
Push Creative + Market Awareness
- Stay on top of trends in:
- Toy and collectible packaging
- Retail merchandising
- Pop culture and licensed products
- Continuously push for packaging that feels fresh, collectible, and shelf-driving
What You Bring
- 5+ years of experience in packaging design for consumer products
- Strong experience with licensed products and approval processes (REQUIRED)
- Deep understanding of:
- Legal lines and trademark usage
- Packaging compliance and regulations
- A portfolio that shows:
- Retail-ready packaging
- Structural + graphic design
- Licensed or branded work
Technical Skills
- Advanced in:
- Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign
- Strong knowledge of:
- Dielines and packaging structures
- Print production and materials
- Color management and finishes
- Experience with 3D mockups/rendering is a plus
Position is a hybrid work schedule of our corporate office in Chatsworth and remote at
home work. Position reports to the Chief Creative Officer
Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
