Within the County organization, the Door County Library provides accessible information, educational resources, and community services through eight library branches located across the county. Serving residents, visitors, and users of all ages, the library system offers print and digital materials, public technology access, research tools, and a wide range of programs that support learning, literacy, and community engagement. The Door County Library participates in OWLSnet, giving patrons access to materials from dozens of libraries throughout the region.
Library services include public computers, wireless internet, interlibrary loan, self-check options at select branches, and technology-focused programming. Several branches also offer meeting spaces for community use and maintain local history collections that support research and preservation of regional heritage. Through these offerings, the Door County Library provides safe, welcoming spaces that promote knowledge, discovery, and connection across the county.
To continue this important work, we are seeking a candidate who will perform the responsibilities outlined in the job summary and contribute to our efforts in serving the community.

Job Summary
This entry-level position supports the public library’s operations by performing routine clerical and physical tasks that maintain accessibility and organization of library materials. The Library Page ensures orderly collections and facilitates a welcoming environment for patrons by shelving materials, assisting with circulation, and supporting general library functions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Sorts and shelves returned library materials according to established alphabetical and numerical systems to ensure accurate and accessible collections.
2. Reads shelves to verify alphabetical and numerical sequence, straightens materials, and relocates misplaced items to maintain collection integrity.
3. Assists at the circulation desk by checking out and clearing materials, accepting payments, and entering transactions into the library system.
4. Issues library cards by verifying patron information and entering data.
5. Files materials and records using standard classification and indexing practices to maintain organized and retrievable documentation.
6. Answers incoming phone calls and directs inquiries to the appropriate library staff to ensure timely patron support.
7. Acts as a messenger within the facility to retrieve and deliver requested items from stacks or storage areas.
8. Meters and processes outgoing mail to facilitate communication.
9. Provides basic assistance to patrons in using library equipment and technology to support digital literacy and engagement.
10. Performs other duties as assigned to support library operations and staff.

Required Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or current enrollment as a student in good standing (minimum age 16).
  • No prior experience required.
Preferred Education & Experience
  • Previous experience working in a library or customer service setting.
  • Familiarity with library classification systems and basic computer applications.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Work is performed primarily in a public library setting with frequent interaction with the public. The position requires nearly continuous standing and walking, as well as frequent bending, stooping, climbing, reaching, handling, and repetitive motions. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. and to push/pull objects weighing up to 40 lbs. of force on an intermittent basis throughout the shift. Tasks also involve reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, using vision, speaking, and hearing. Visual acuity and auditory capacity are necessary to assist patrons and perform detailed tasks. The work environment is generally quiet with minimal exposure to dust, noise, or temperature fluctuations. Shifts include evening and weekend hours.
