PARALEGAL*
*This is a provisional appointment; all interested applicants must meet the minimum qualifications as listed below will be
considered. The successful candidate will be required to take the competitive civil service examination for this title when next
announced. Candidates who currently hold or have held the title of Paralegal on a permanent basis will also be considered.
Under general supervision, and under the direction of the Town Attorney and Deputy Town
Attorneys, the incumbent carries out complex legal assignments in support of various attorneys.
Perform various paralegal tasks, including research and preparation of legal documents and
electronic filing.
Job Group: Management Annual Salary: $75,000 - $95,000 DOE

Description/Examples of Work (Illustrative Only):
Draft local laws, prepare resolutions and post them for Town Board agendas. Conduct legal
research to assist attorneys and draft legal documents. Complete all electronic filing with the Federal, State Courts, local Courts and County Agencies and/or in person if required. Calendar and track deadlines and related work as required. Represent the department by serving legal documents to public institutions and private entities. Coordinate petition procedures between Courts and other departments to meet deadlines. Communicate with other departments and compiles information on pending litigations. Assist the Town Prosecutor with pre-trials and trials related to Vehicle and Traffic Law matters including attendance of Court conferences. Draft pleading and judgments for Town Prosecutor and attorneys. Assist residents with Notary services (if Clerk is unavailable). Provide general clerical support to enhance the operation of the legal department such as answering phone calls, office coverage and entering legal case data into the filing system to ensure that accurate information is preserved and available. Prepare Stipulations
of Settlement related to Tax Certiorari matters and other matters, Property Recording Forms and documents for other matters.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes:
High school or equivalency diploma and either: (a) an Associate's Degree in paralegal studies; and four years of paralegal experience; or (b) satisfactory completion of a course in paralegal studies at a school approved by the American Bar Association; and four years of paralegal experience.
