Job Summary
We are looking hire a detail-oriented Family Law Paralegal to support a small, collaborative team (1–2 attorneys / 1–2 paralegals) in a remote-first environment. You’ll work closely with Attorneys handling cases from intake through judgment and post-judgment, primarily in family law (dissolution, paternity, timesharing, child support), with spillover into guardianship, adoption, and civil litigation support as needed.
Responsibilities; What You’ll Do
- Case Management: Open/organize files in Clio, manage statutes & deadlines, maintain task lists, and keep matters on track.
- Client Communications: Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for clients (status updates, document requests, scheduling, collecting information for attorneys), maintaining professional, empathetic communication.
- Drafting: Under attorney supervision and direction, prepare and revise petitions, answers, financial affidavits, discovery (ROGs/RFPs/RFAs), notices of hearing, proposed orders, subpoenas, and mediation/trial prep materials.
- Filing & Service: E-file via the Florida Courts E-Filing Portal, coordinate e-service, arrange process service, and track proofs/returns.
- Discovery & Evidence: Manage disclosures, exhibit lists, deposition/mediation coordination, and hearing/trial exhibits/binders.
- Calendaring & Scheduling: Set hearings/mediations; coordinate with Judical Assistants, opposing counsel court reporters, interpreters, and mediators.
- Research & Templates: Perform targeted legal/fact research; maintain and improve firm templates and checklists.
- Cross-Matter Support: Pitch in on guardianship, adoption, and civil litigation tasks when needed.
Requirements and Preferences
- Experience: 2+ years as a Florida family law paralegal (required).
- Tech: Proficiency with Clio, Google Workspace (Docs/Sheets/Drive), Florida e-Filing Portal, Zoom; fast learner with new tools.
- Florida Know-How: Familiarity with researching Florida Family Law Rules, local standing orders, UMC procedures, and judge-specific practices.
- Communication: Clear writer/editor; confident, courteous client communicator.
- Organization: Excellent attention to detail; strong follow-through in a deadline-driven setting.
- Remote Readiness: Reliable computer, high-speed internet, private workspace; able to self-manage with minimal supervision.
- Nice to Have (But not Required): Notary; bilingual (especially Spanish); experience in guardianship/adoption matters; e-discovery basics; DocuSign; Clio Manage.
Structure & Compensation
- Employment: Full-time W-2 or 1099—your choice.
- Compensation: From $51,000/year DOE (or equivalent hourly if 1099), plus performance bonuses tied to billables/firm KPIs.
- Flexibility: Remote with flexible hours; occasional in-person tasks may arise, especially mailing and/or scanning documents.
- PTO/Benefits: If W-2, standard benefits may be available and discussed following completion of a probationary period stage.
