Typical starting pay will be at the beginning of the range, depending on qualifications.*Primary PurposePerforms a variety of legal and administrative duties in support of the City Attorney and Prosecutor, including Municipal Court operations, document drafting, legal research assistance, and general departmental tasks. Supports the prosecution of traffic offenses and ordinance violations by preparing charging documents, discovery materials, motions, and other case-related filings; organizing evidence; and assisting with law enforcement-related prosecutorial tasks. Assists with weekly Municipal Court dockets by preparing plea offers, communicating with defense counsel and defendants as appropriate, and supporting the City Attorney and Prosecutor in court. Regularly interacts with law enforcement and Municipal Court staff regarding case information, scheduling, discovery, and other court-related matters, and communicates with victims and witnesses regarding case status, restitution, and hearing dates. Additionally collaborates with other City departments on contract review, ordinance and resolution preparation, policy development, and items submitted through the attorney-review process.Supervision Under the direct supervision of the City Prosecuting Attorney.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assists with the preparation, revision, and organization of ordinances, resolutions, City Code updates, City Council agenda materials, policies, and procedures. Scans, files, and and enters documents into systems utilized by the City Clerk and the Legal Department, and distributes originals and copies as
required.Works closely with the City Clerk to track, process, and complete items submitted through the attorney-review process.Assists in preparing training materials, including handouts, presentations, and other correspondence for City staff or City Council.Makes all required redactions under applicable Missouri Supreme Court Operating Rules for documents filed with the Municipal Court.Accesses, safeguards, and handles restricted information such as police reports, investigative materials, lab reports, and criminal history data when assisting the City Attorney and Prosecutor with Municipal Court cases.Receives and tracks requests for plea recommendations, prepares plea offers at the direction of the City Attorney and Prosecutor, and ensures all necessary documentation is prepared in advance of scheduled court datesUtilizes police records-management systems to review, redact, and prepare records for disclosure in discovery and obtains digital and photographic evidence as needed for prosecution.Assists with preparation and filing of pleadings, notices, motions, certificates, and other case-related documents with the Municipal Court at the direction of the City Attorney and Prosecutor.Monitors active Municipal Court cases and assists with preparation for trials, hearings, and other scheduled proceedings.While Municipal Court is in session: Handling initial communications with defendants seeking to speak with the City Attorney and Prosecutor for plea preparation or disposition recommendations.Provides collected information to the City Attorney and Prosecutor for plea preparation or disposition recommendations.Assists in preparing plea offers to present to defendants, as directed.Obtains police reports, digital media, and other evidence as requested.Instructs defendants on restitution procedures.Manages receipt, logging, and distribution of restitution payments in Municipal Court cases.Tracks probation sentences imposed in Municipal Court cases to ensure compliance with terms and conditions. Reports potential violations and assists in preparing motions to revoke probation when appropriate. Communicates with victims and witnesses regarding restitution, case status, hearing dates, and other matters relevant to their involvement in Municipal Court proceedings. Assists in creating and implementing new or improved departmental procedures.Interacts courteously and professionally with fellow employees, law enforcement, Municipal Court staff, and the public.Performs other duties as assignedImportant Duties Performs a variety of administrative and office tasks, including copying, filing, scanning, printing, faxing, and processing incoming and outgoing mail. Responds to miscellaneous inquiries regarding policies and procedures, as necessary.Attends in-service training or other job-related training sessions as deemed appropriate.Maintains appropriate supplies for assigned work areas.Keeps work areas clean, organized, and professionally maintained.

Physical DemandsPerforms bending, sorting, kneeling, and reaching to both ground level and overhead as required for such tasks as retrieving files; lifts and carries up to 10 pounds; pushes and pulls up to 25 pounds; must be able to hold and grip objects; may be subject to sitting for long periods of time; ability to operate a computer keyboard and mouse. Some assignments may require the incumbent to hear audiotapes utilized for transcription purposes or record verbal dictation.
