Job Summary:
Paralegal is responsible for assisting attorneys with litigation, including legal research, motion writing, discovery, and filing with District, Superior, and Federal courts. Including performing a variety of clerical and administrative support tasks to facilitate legal case management.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Drafting of demand and claim letters;
· Opening new files with appropriate documentation;
· Requesting medical records/bills, police reports, and other file materials for processing claims;
· Litigation Support to 4 Attorneys;
· Legal Research, motion and opposition writing, discovery requests and responses; deposition organization and notices; subpoenas, and other pleadings in support of civil litigation;
· Manage the daily mail and ensure timely distribution to legal staff as well as scanning, labeling, and uploading all mail to management system (TrialWorks).
· Manage calendars, schedules and appointments including trial dates and hearings, depositions, meetings, and travel for attorneys; maintain company master calendar.
· Prepare, index, and manage legal correspondence and documentation including but not limited to medical records requests and follow-up; service of process; court statements and forms such as motions and oppositions and related exhibits. transcribing dictation from attorneys.
· File pleadings to various branches of the judicial system – district, superior and federal courts, MCAD and the Dept. of Industrial Accidents as required by attorneys. Scan, file and maintain all documentation in the firm’s TrialWorks.
· Arrange client appointments, interview clients and witnesses.
· Maintain a professional and positive work environment by facilitating effective communication and information sharing among legal and support staff.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
· Strong time management skills to effectively multi-task in this role.
· Spanish or Portuguese speaking.
· Proven ability to organize and prioritize tasks to effectively manage multiple priorities.
· Superior written and verbal communication skills.
· Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
· Detail-oriented and professional.
· Ability to maintain confidential records and confidentiality of privileged information.
· Advanced understanding of office management practices including knowledge of accounting procedures and information systems.
· Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat as well as experienced in the use of DocuSign and Drop Box.
Education and Experience:
· Associates’ degree in Paralegal Studies, or Paralegal Certificate;
· Experience in a legal department as a legal administrative assistant, support staff, bookkeeper, legal assistant, legal secretary, or office manager.
· Proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Must be able to physical lift up to 15 pounds at times.
· Must be able to climb stairs several times a day.
Salary Range:
$60,000-70,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
