This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workday. The NC Department of Insurance trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.

Mission of the Industrial Commission:
The North Carolina Industrial Commission is vested as a court of exclusive and original jurisdiction by the General Assembly to adjudicate and administer the North Carolina Workers' Compensation Act. The Industrial Commission processes over 65,000 workers' compensation injury reports and claims filed annually under the Act. This responsibility includes overseeing and providing for the trial of contested cases as well as administering non-contested cases. Workers who are injured by accident on the job or who contract an occupational disease receive disability and medical benefits as ordered by the Industrial Commission. The Industrial Commission is also a court of original jurisdiction for litigating tort claims against the State under the North Carolina State Tort Claims Act. Additionally, the General Assembly has mandated the Industrial Commission to provide an adjudicated process for Childhood Vaccine-Related Injury claims, Compensation to Persons Erroneously Convicted of Felonies, and Eugenics claims. It acts as a court of exclusive and final jurisdiction for death claims made by families of law enforcement officers, fire fighters, rescue squad workers and civil air patrol members arising under the Public Safety Employees' Death Benefits Act. Each of these adjudicatory systems requires administration of contested and uncontested claims, review of agreements, and supervision of payment of benefits.

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The North Carolina Industrial Commission’s Clerk’s Office ensures that all case filings are promptly placed in the appropriate Industrial Commission files and routed to the appropriate Industrial Commission staff. The Clerk’s Office also ensures that cases to be heard by the Industrial Commission are timely placed on the docket and moved through the Industrial Commission as efficiently and expeditiously as possible. The Clerk’s Office is also responsible for creating transcripts of evidence for all appeals to the Full Commission. In addition, the Clerk’s Office files and serves Full Commission decisions; administers Deputy Commissioner and other trial court calendars; and oversees recordings of hearings, hearing transcripts, the Industrial Commission attorney database, and the Industrial Commission’s stored files.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Paralegal – Salesforce Case Management Business Specialist plays a key role in supporting the Agency’s operations by ensuring accuracy and compliance in case records and ensuring the accurate processing of cases through the Salesforce case management system. This position combines traditional paralegal expertise with electronic case management oversight to maintain data integrity, facilitate case flow, and ensure compliance with agency procedures and statutory requirements. The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational and analytical skills, experience with Salesforce or similar systems, and the ability to collaborate across departments to improve workflows and support the agency’s functions. Responsibilities include serving as the Clerk’s Office lead subject matter expert for the agency’s Salesforce case management system and managing external user permissions, workflows, record types, and automated notifications. This position also is responsible for maintaining accuracy and consistency of case data, filings and deadlines; developing and generating reports, dashboards, and analytics to support operational and compliance needs; and developing and providing staff training, reference materials, and user support for staff. Paralegal duties include assisting with reviewing, logging, and processing case filings and correspondence; drafting procedural documents and templates in accordance with Commission rules and business practices; and maintaining compliance with the Commission’s recordkeeping, confidentiality, and public access policies.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

The knowledge, skills, and abilities listed in the vacancy announcement should be used as management preferences and be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.
Management Preferences:
- Demonstrated experience operating at a high level of efficiency in a high-volume environment.
- Demonstrated experience drafting routine legal orders with little oversight and producing a work product with correct grammar, spelling, content, and little need for revision.
- Demonstrated experience working independently utilizing exceptional organizational skills, while maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated high level business experience with Salesforce or a similar legal case management system.
Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from an appropriately accredited institution for paralegal training; or Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of substantive paralegal experience; or High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma and five years of paralegal experience performing delegated, substantive legal work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
