The Paralegal is responsible for drafting, issuing, and administering contracts; identifying and engaging potential contractors; negotiating and finalizing contract terms; and monitoring compliance with contractual obligations through completion. The role also includes preparing and submitting documents to relevant University offices, conducting legal and contract-related research, maintaining the integrity of contract databases, and producing ad hoc and routine reports. The Paralegal exercises sound judgment in selecting appropriate methods and strategies to achieve effective solutions, collaborates closely with attorneys and internal stakeholders, and ensures alignment with University policies, health system requirements, and applicable legal standards. This role provides specialized legal and contractual support tailored specifically to the operational and regulatory environment of UC San Diego Health.

Additional Position Details:

  • Anticipated duration: 6 months +

  • Compensation: $45 - 53 / hour, including paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available.

  • Location: Hybrid / remote work arrangement requiring 3 days on-site per week. On-site work will be at UC San Diego’s offices in the University City area.

  • Work schedule: Mon – Fri, 8:00 – 4:30 PM.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related area (major in business administration, liberal arts, political science) and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Three (3) or more years of relevant experience.

  • Paralegal certificate or equivalent knowledge and experience.

  • Working knowledge of the legal principles in intellectual property law (patent, copyright, trademark), business, contract and tort law.

  • Understanding of health law principles and government regulations as well as familiarity with federal, state, and local contracting procedures.

  • Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations and general contract terms.

  • Independent analytical and high-level critical thinking skills to identify problems and develop innovative solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and review policies, processes, and procedures in order to develop and maintain knowledge to improve work product and offer recommendations for implementing efficient processes.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills; and ability to deal effectively with broad and diverse constituencies ensuring excellent customer service.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $79,200 - $143,400 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $37.93 - $68.68

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
