Paralegal/Legal Assistant

Overview
Small law firm seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Paralegal/Legal Assistant with experience in real estate closings, probate, and estate planning to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of legal procedures, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive attitude in assisting attorneys with case management. This is a part-time position, offering 20-25 hours per week to start, with flexibility in scheduling.

  • Real Estate Closings:
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing closing documents for residential and commercial transactions.
  • Coordinate with clients, realtors, and lenders to facilitate smooth closings.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations in real estate transactions.
  • Probate & Estate Planning:
  • Prepare and file probate documents with the court, including petitions, inventories, and accountings.
  • Assist clients with the administration of estates, including asset collection and distribution.
  • Draft estate planning documents such as wills, trusts, and powers of attorney.
  • Communicate with clients regarding estate planning and probate matters.
  • General Legal Support:
  • Maintain and organize case files, documents, and correspondence.
  • Schedule meetings, hearings, and deadlines.
  • Draft basic legal correspondence and prepare reports as directed by attorneys.
  • Ensure that all legal deadlines are met and assist with maintaining case calendars.

Qualifications:

  • Strong administrative, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Experience in a law firm or legal environment preferred
  • Knowledge of real estate conveyancing preferred
  • Experience with estate planning and/or probate matters is a plus
  • Paralegal certificate or equivalent legal experience is beneficial but not required
  • Knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and document preparation.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (experience with Qualia is a plus).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, and third parties.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Paralegal certification from an accredited program.
  • Experience with court filings and e-filing systems.
  • Knowledge of local real estate regulations and probate laws.
