Overview
Small law firm seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Paralegal/Legal Assistant with experience in real estate closings, probate, and estate planning to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of legal procedures, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive attitude in assisting attorneys with case management. This is a part-time position, offering 20-25 hours per week to start, with flexibility in scheduling.
- Real Estate Closings:
- Assist in preparing and reviewing closing documents for residential and commercial transactions.
- Coordinate with clients, realtors, and lenders to facilitate smooth closings.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations in real estate transactions.
- Probate & Estate Planning:
- Prepare and file probate documents with the court, including petitions, inventories, and accountings.
- Assist clients with the administration of estates, including asset collection and distribution.
- Draft estate planning documents such as wills, trusts, and powers of attorney.
- Communicate with clients regarding estate planning and probate matters.
- General Legal Support:
- Maintain and organize case files, documents, and correspondence.
- Schedule meetings, hearings, and deadlines.
- Draft basic legal correspondence and prepare reports as directed by attorneys.
- Ensure that all legal deadlines are met and assist with maintaining case calendars.
Qualifications:
- Strong administrative, organizational, and time-management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Experience in a law firm or legal environment preferred
- Knowledge of real estate conveyancing preferred
- Experience with estate planning and/or probate matters is a plus
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent legal experience is beneficial but not required
- Knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and document preparation.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (experience with Qualia is a plus).
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, and third parties.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Paralegal certification from an accredited program.
- Experience with court filings and e-filing systems.
- Knowledge of local real estate regulations and probate laws.
