Paratransit Dispatcher

Position Title: Paratransit Dispatcher

CBA Status: Non-Represented

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Department: Paratransit

Wage: $27.00 - $29.33 (depending on qualifications)

Schedule: Hours may be varied based on the need for coverage; shifts include weekends,

early mornings, late evenings, and occasional holidays.

Reporting to the Paratransit Manager, the Paratransit Dispatcher ensures the efficient functioning of paratransit route services, assists operators, while ensuring full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations, Metro policies and procedures, and the Paratransit Section of the Metro-TWU contract and rule book. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) random drug and alcohol testing.

Paratransit Dispatcher Qualifications:

  • 3 years of transit industry experience or 2 years of demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Possess knowledge of Metro’s route system, and the metropolitan streets and traffic patterns.
  • Possess basic math skills.
  • Highly skilled at using Microsoft Office Suite and other computer software.
  • Able to effectively communicate.
  • Highly motivated and strong ability to focus.
  • Possess stable and verifiable work history.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Ability to pass DOT physical, back screen, drug screen, and complete criminal record check.

Paratransit Dispatcher Essential Duties:

  • Regular and predictable performance of essential job functions.
  • Responsible for the daily start-up and/or shut down procedures of paratransit service.
  • Creates, maintains, and monitors computerized daily manifests for Paratransit services; modifies and updates manifest schedules as needed. Reconciles paratransit operators’ hours and mileage and maintains records for the National Transportation Database (NTD). Performs operator timekeeping duties and maintains attendance records.
  • Ensures scheduled drivers arrive to work on time, leave on time, and are fit for duty. Maintains communication with operators during the scheduled hours of operation to ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations. Monitors two-way radio for information regarding route issues and field situations; assists operators when required.
  • Responds to emergency situations as requested including hazardous and severe weather conditions; coordinate with supervisors, police, and emergency dispatchers as required.
  • Assists Paratransit operators in preparing incident/accident/injury reports and ensures completion.
  • Schedules client trips when required, dispatches paratransit vehicles, interacts with other departments, and ensures all policies and procedures are followed.
  • Coordinates the daily assignments of operators and vehicles for revenue service to meet service needs. Ensures all open runs and vacation schedules are posted weekly. Assigns daily runs, calls out replacement operators; assigns overtime and extra board work according to company rules, policies, and the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
  • Performs a wide variety of clerical functions and support, including but not limited to such tasks as answering phone calls, typing and data entry, using proprietary transit software, and related staffing activities.
  • Ensures that operators conform with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as amended, company policies, and CBA, including but not limited to, drug/alcohol testing, absenteeism, incidents, accidents, and personal injuries reporting and investigation.
  • Prepares and posts route detours as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
