PARK INTERPRETIVE SPECIALIST (SEASONAL) – OCEANO DUNES DISTRICT / OFF-HIGHWAY MOTOR VEHICLE RECREATION

Come join the State Parks team as a Park Interpretive Specialist (seasonal) in the beautiful Oceano Dunes District. The reporting location for this position is the Oceano Dunes District Visitor Center, 555 Pier Ave, Oceano, CA 93445. This position will work under the supervision of State Park Interpreter III.
This position will assist with planning, coordinating, and delivering interpretive and educational programming within the district and community. Communication methods may include social media, YouTube, traditional park programing and staffing the visitor center. A Department and district approved uniform is required to be worn during work hours. Work hours will vary and may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.
Applicants should have the following qualities: Ability to stand for prolonged periods; work under varied weather conditions; effectively communicate with visitors and other park staff; operate a computer and have basic understanding of Zoom or other video communication platforms; willingness to learn how to operate an off-highway vehicle; desire to learn about the natural, cultural and recreational history of Pismo State Beach and Oceano Dunes SVRA and to share this knowledge with the general public.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

Working Conditions
Work Environment:
Office environment and outside work in the parks, local community and outreach events. At times duties involve working in inclement weather and extreme conditions (sun, wind, rain, blowing sand, unstable sand).
Daily and frequent use of computers and a variety of office software applications at a workstation,
Sit in a normal seated position for extended periods of time,
Standing for long lengths of time during programing and outreach,
May involve some exposure to aggressive visitors,
Work in an outdoor setting for extended periods.
Physical Abilities:
Move about, stand, reach, stoop, or bend.
Use fine motor skills for computer or office machine use.
Hear, see, read, write, and speak in a clear and concise manner.
Lift supply boxes up to 20 lbs. and move heavier supplies using a hand cart.
Common eye, hand and finger dexterity is required for most essential functions.
Requires prolonged sitting, standing, and walking on uneven and slippery surfaces.
Requires reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties.
Requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment.
