Summary


The hiring salary range is $66,486.38 - $73,135.02 annually, commensurate with experience.

Charles County Government is currently recruiting for a dynamic Park Maintenance Superintendent to become a part of the Parks and Grounds Division of the Recreation, Parks & Tourism Department. The Park Maintenance Superintendent will lead others in performing parks and grounds maintenance work and perform a variety of parks and grounds maintenance tasks in maintaining and constructing county parks facilities and grounds areas.

Essential Job Functions

  • Operates and directs the operation of grounds maintenance equipment, such as backhoes, dump trucks, front-end loader, turf renovation equipment and turf tractors.
  • Assists in planning and assessing future construction, renovation, and maintenance projects.
  • Develops and maintains construction and maintenance schedules.
  • Assists with daily work schedules, construction maintenance records, materials list, and inventory.
  • Approves for hire, trains coordinate, evaluates and recommends for discipline assigned personnel in accordance with County Personnel policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and maintains records.
  • Prepares time, payroll and leave reports.
  • Assists in scheduling DOT physicals and ordering uniforms for staff.
  • Assists with the ordering of equipment for annual budget.
  • Maintains routine equipment and performs vehicle and equipment adjustments and repairs.
  • Assists with planning and supervising snow removal program.
  • Assists in directing construction, renovation, and maintenance of the Board of Education and Park athletic field.
  • Maintains division turf equipment inventory and schedules recommended preventative maintenance.
  • Cooperates with other Divisions in special events and projects.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education and Experience:

Associate’s degree in related field. Two (2) years of progressively responsible parks or grounds maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

Licenses or Certifications:

Must possess a valid driver's license, Class B

Special Requirements/Qualifications:

Subject to work beyond the normal scheduled hours of work.
Subject to call back in emergencies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the use and care of hand and power tools used in the work.
  • Knowledge of effective techniques of supervision.
  • Ability to carry out daily assignments, follow through on matters, and use independent judgment and training to take appropriate actions to deal with standard recurring situations.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures used in parks and grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to follow safety practices in performance of all duties; and ensures employee compliance with safety practices.
  • Ability to perform and supervise parks and grounds maintenance work efficiently.
  • Ability to use the tools and equipment of work efficiently.
  • Ability to train and lead others in the work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is regularly active with periods of heavy exertion. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 100 pounds; climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding; bend, kneel, crouch and crawl; reach, hold, grasp, and turn objects; feel the size, shape, and temperature of items; use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards; speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing, and to detect odors.

Principal duties of this job are performed in a general office, in shop or field settings and outside environment.
