Park Maintenance Worker Senior (Division of Parks and Recreation)

SALARY


The minimum salary is $16.587 per hour
This position is eligible for overtime (non-exempt), if applicable.
Pay Grade 510


This position is additionally eligible for:

  • Hazardous Duty Supplemental Pay ($90/month) upon hire
  • CDL pay ($1.08/hour), once obtained within the first six (6) months of employment

GENERAL DESCRIPTION


The purpose of this classification is to perform work in maintaining city parks, recreational areas, athletic fields, and landscaped grounds. In addition to hands-on duties, this role serves as a lead worker for crews performing groundskeeping, landscaping, and park maintenance tasks.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of related experience
  • Additional years of related education may substitute for years of experience

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Leads and participates in the maintenance of lawns, trees, shrubs, flower beds, trails, playgrounds, and open spaces within parks and public grounds
  • Assigns tasks and provides on-the-job guidance and informal training crew members
  • Operates and maintains a variety of equipment including, but not limited to skidsteers, dump trucks, tractors, riding mowers, string trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, utility vehicles, and personnel lifts
  • Maintains irrigation systems; adjust, repair, or report issues to appropriate personnel
  • Prepares and maintains athletic fields including stripping, lining, dragging, and leveling
  • Performs minor repairs to park fixtures, fencing, benches, grills, and other outdoor amenities
  • Cleans and maintains park facilities including but not limited to restrooms, shelters, concessions, and equipment buildings
  • Monitors parks for hazards or damage; report or address issues
  • Apply fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides as directed and in accordance with applicable regulations
  • Maintains records of daily work performed, materials used, and equipment serviced
  • Assists with snow and ice removal from trails, sidewalks, and public parks and streets
  • Supports special events and seasonal programming through setup and cleanup activities
  • Ensures proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety standards
  • Performs related work as assigned

SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATION


All certifications and licenses must be maintained as a condition of employment.

  • Valid driver's license
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B within the first six (6) months of employment
  • Required to obtain an appropriate Pesticide Applicator license from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture within the first twelve (12) months of employment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Positions are required to perform snow removal duties during weather emergencies
  • Must be accessible for on-call duty and be able to work weekends and holidays as assigned and during emergencies
